Jackie Langfeld

My work, although difficult to ascribe to one particular method or style, is closely connected to the meaning of stitched textile. Each individual piece employs stitch in a unique way which is entirely appropriate to the particular idea that I wish to convey.

My current work involves the use of recycled cardboard and stitch and forms a collection of life sized 'Paper Warriors'. The use of re-cycled cardboard in this collection is laden with meaning, and images of both refuge and refuse come to mind; serving as ironic contemporary comment on the contrasts and failings of our society. The collection, then, attempts to express ideas about our precarious existence and our perceptions of ourselves and the things around us.

The creative process, whether drawing, painting or stitching, has been a life long interest and passion. I have worked diversely in graphic design, art work for window display and costume and theatrical hire. More recently I taught City and Guilds Embroidery Certificate and Diploma at Fareham College in Hampshire alongside a Master class in experimental embroidery.
