Elizabeth Hinkes

I have always been interested in making fabrics of my own, whether by making felt or by using existing materials and changing them in some way to make a new fabric.  I like to recycle fabrics and change their original appearance and texture. At the moment I am working with ready made felt and sewing and cutting layers away to make a reasonably sturdy and functional fabric. I may sew by hand or use the sewing machine. I prefer that my work has a function as well as being pleasing to look at. The pieces I have been working on most recently are inspired by the work of the Kuna Indians who love bright colour and subjects from nature.
