Ann Beare Life is experienced through a series of transformations - there are choices to be made and paths to be followed. Resolve and inner strength are needed to overcome the physical and emotional obstacles that are encountered along life's journey. The body is central to the work as a physical bearer of clothes and as a reference to humanity: hopes, disappointments, expectations. Current work reflects the need for private space; a place for contemplation and reflection; the opportunity for the healing of bodily and psychological wounds. The importance of family background in determining an individual’s character and providing the inner strength to carry on is acknowledged through the inclusion of photographic images and text together with the choice of fabric, techniques and stitch. Social documentary forms an integral part of the work which has direct and subliminal metaphorical content. Work is intended as an optimistic and universal message of encouragement: a message that determination can lead to transformation.
